US CITIES: Vocabulary practice for ESL students: DENVER, CO

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Denver, CO. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Denver is the most populous city and the capital of the State of Colorado. It is beautifully situated at the (hills/foothills) of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is nicknamed "The Mile-High City" because its official (elevation/elevator) (marked on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol) is exactly one mile (5280 feet or 1610 meters) above sea (altitude/level). Generally, the neighborhoods closest to the city center are denser and older, with houses that are often made (in/of) brick.

Denver is home to many (national/nationally)recognized museums, including the Denver Art Museum, the second largest performing (arts/artists) center in the nation after Lincoln Center in New York City. Denver is generally (considered/conceded) a nice place to live, and (provides/provokes) lots of (recreational/reactionary) and cultural attractions for it's (residence/residents).
